🌎 Make a plan for your leftovers.
🌎 Looking for a Christmas jumper? Thrift it or why not borrow or swap with family and friends.
Adding Some Christmas Cheer To The Village
Delgany Tidy Towns added a touch of sparkle to the village this month while also working closely with the North Pole to make sure all of Santa's letters from the village reach Santa in time for Christmas.
Santa & the elves are extremely busy at the moment checking their list twice, however during their hot chocolate breaks they do like to reply to some of Santa's letters. We recommend you add Mammy, Daddy or perhaps Granny or Grandad's email address to your letter. You never know you might be one of the lucky boys and girls that receive a reply.
The Delgany Santa Post Box is now located in the heart of the village outside the Delgany Market.
Thank you to our Delgany Tidy Town volunteers for making our village merry and bright this Christmas.

Trees for Bees
Delgany Tidy Towns and Dcs For Bees are joining forces for a fruit orchard planting project.
The Dcs For Bees “Orchards in the Community” has inspired partners, community groups, schools and individuals across Ireland to plant mixed fruit orchards to provide a much needed early Spring food source for our pollinators.
We are calling on all local Delgany residential estates and associations to get in contact with us with some potential orchard sites in the area. If you have any ideas at all or places you'd like to suggest we'd love to hear from you!
So if you live in Delgany and your residential estate would like to get involved contact delganytidytowns@gmail.com with the following information:

Name and contact details of residential estate representative.
Suggestion Deadline: Thursday, 16th November 2023.

National Reuse Month
October 2023
What is Reuse Month?
October is Ireland’s National Reuse Month. Reuse is about valuing our stuff, by using and reusing it for as long and as often as possible. This avoids the need to extract raw materials, manufacture and distribute new stuff, and avoids waste thereby cutting down on greenhouse gas emissions. Why not make a commitment to reuse as many things as possible to save the environment.
Reduce & Reuse
Tips and advice on reducing waste and reusing certain items around the house.
When people think of being Waste Aware, recycling springs to mind. Better still, though, is reducing our waste by reusing things as much as possible. Here are some tips to help reducing your waster and reusing certain items.
Reduce
Avoid heavily packaged goods
Buy loose fruit and vegetables
Buy products in big containers (like washing powder)
Bring your own bags shopping and skip the government levy
Use refillable or rechargeable products: pens, batteries, cameras
Try growing your own vegetables
Stop junk mail
Repair broken goods as much as possible
Share newspapers, magazines and books with friends and relatives
Use longer-lasting energy-saving CFL light bulbs
Use reusable nappies rather than disposables
Be creative!
Reuse
Again, what you'll reuse will often depend on your own individual factors. Here are a few ideas to get you started.
Reuse clothes: charity shops
If you have clothes and other items that you no longer need, donating to a charity shop is a great way to have them reused. For a good list, see the The Irish Charity Shops Association.
Reuse books: exchange programmes
Many children reuse their siblings' schoolbooks, but why not reuse books from other families who are finished with them? All of Wicklow County Councils environmental and recycling centres have book exchange facilities and secondhand schoolbook shops in the summer. Also, School Book Exchange , run in the summer months by Wicklow County Council offers excellent quality reuse school and college books. Books can be purchased for a small fee of €2-€3.
Reuse in the home
Use old jars and tubs for storage
Use washable dishcloths instead of throwaway disposable wipes
Use scrap paper for writing notes
Use a lunch box instead of foil or cling film
Mend clothes and get shoes reheeled so they last longer
Useful Local Reuse Websites
One of the best ways to reuse items is by using one of the online secondhand goods swap sites.
Freecycle groups allow you to give your stuff away free to others, and also to request something that you need.
Below is just a sample of some of the Freecycle groups across Wicklow.
There are also specific freecycle groups for Wicklow Buy & Sell Children’s Clothes & Toys.
The results are in!
